1. Indoor air filters must be kept clean. Check every 60 days during peak cooling seasons.
2. Make sure that you wash the outside condenser coil once a year. A dirty coil will run hotter and less efficiently. A sign of the coil being dirty is the small exposed copper line (liquid line) being hot to the touch.
3. Keep shrubs and bushes away from the outdoor condenser. Never blow grass clippings towards the condenser.
4. All interior doors should have about 3/4" gap between the bottom of the door and the floor. This insures air movement when the door is closed.
5. During peak cooling times, never turn off your air conditioning system and expect it to cool quickly on returning. Instead turn the thermostat up to 78-80 degrees.
6. Keep blinds closed, curtains drawn, or window shades down. Direct sunlight can absorb up to 25 percent of your cooling.
7. Do not build a deck above an outdoor condenser unit.
8. Always call an Air Conditioning technician before trying to resolve a problem with your unit.
9. Regular maintenance will limit your repair costs.
10. If your unit is older and inefficient, inquire about the benefits of replacing your unit. A replacement may pay for itself by lowering your utility bills and repair costs.
